The first camp of my summer was held at RAF Cottesmore up North. Those who were part of the 1924 drill team got taken up a day later than everyone else because we had the Surrey Wing Drill Comp, which we won again! The first day was mainly a familiarisation day in which we would meet new people and talk about ourselves. Everyone would sleep in tents which were mixed around so that we could meet new people. I was with a few from 1034DF and 1172. Throughout the week we were lucky enough to get visits to the fire station which I’m sure that no-one will forget! We also got a tour around the new Typhoon by Flt Lt Mason who is an Ex-cadet of 1924. We also got a visit to the armoury where we got to see and hold weapons like the GPMG, the Russian RPG7 and of course the AK47. We had a lot of fun when we went to Laser quest in which although everyone tried to be tactical ended up as a big free-for-all. Finally as the week drew to a close we performed our final parade and were awarded prizes. Some of us even got free RAF T-Shirts! Overall all that attended were sure that it was a great camp not just because of the activities but also the people that we did it with.
