Recruiting The ATC is not a recruiting organisation for the Royal Air Force or the other Services, however….

As an Air Cadet you will not only have had an enjoyable and fun time but will also have learnt many skills - some not always immediately obvious - you should ensure that these abilities, skills and traits are pushed to the fore when applying for a job.

You will be self-disciplined, able to carry out instructions, punctual, well presented and polite - all traits of value to employers. Especially if you're an NCO you will have had the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership abilities. All Cadets will be able to mention their ability to work as part of a positive team! Just think about those leadership exercises and camps away!

You will not have wasted your time hanging around the streets or getting into trouble. Through the Corps you will have been very actively involved in a wide range of exciting indoor and outdoor pursuits. You will have likely assisted with charitable causes in the local area or perhaps even nationally.

You may well have gained NVQ or BTEC Qualifications through your membership or been able to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. You my also have gained some of the following: Flying Scholarship, Gliding Scholarship, First Aid qualification, Air Cadet Radio Operator certificate are some to name but a few. Many Cadets will have taken part in leadership training courses at local or national level as well as many other courses.

Remember that the fact that you have traveled around the country or abroad with the ATC may be of interest to employers. It demonstrates your ability to broaden your horizons as well as live away from home.

You can use your Marksmanship skills to show how you can concentrate upon a task or demonstrate your patience or ability to learn. And if you are an NCO, you will be able to show that you can command a team, communicate effectively, ensure smartness and show your own flair for initiative. And if you do decide to join the Royal Air Force, you will have given yourself an advantage over those whom have not...
